Ian Poulter knows a thing or two about posing with the winner’s trophy after a golf match, but Sunday the 2012 European Ryder Cup hero was bursting with pride after his son, Luke, with dad on the bag, emerged victorious in Orlando.
Ian Poulter caddies for, live-tweets his son’s golf victory
Ian Poulter cyber-blasts Steve Elkington before taking to social media to tweet about his son Luke’s golf victory.

And there he is with his trophy. I think he might sleep with it tonight. Luke's big day http://t.co/v28KIlxzr6
— Ian Poulter (@IanJamesPoulter) January 5, 2014 Luke romped to a seven-shot victory in the boy’s age-nine division of the U.S. Kids Golf Foundation event at Walt Disney World’s Palm course and the proud papa handled the luggage and live-tweeting duties throughout, with nary an error.
I've got my first caddying job on Sunday. I will find out how @terrymundy feels. Hope I don't give Luke any bad yardages... Hahaha
— Ian Poulter (@IanJamesPoulter) January 4, 2014 (Mundy handles looping duties as Luke’s caddie.)
That Poulter was able to carry the sticks and keep his tweeting fingers loose was no surprise for the Twitter king, who took to the links not long after engaging in a grammar-challenged war of words with social-media scourge Steve Elkington.
But first, the tourney, after which Luke, who posted a 4-over 40 on a 2,000-yard track, received congratulations via Twitter from a number of luminaries, including former world No. 1 Luke Donald and third-year PGA Tour pro, Bud Cauley.
Thanks Luke. RT @LukeDonald Congrats Luuuuuuuuke! RT And Luke James Poulter has Won today which means he wins the boys 9 Order of Merit.

— Ian Poulter (@IanJamesPoulter) January 5, 2014 Prior to the kudos, the 14-time PGA and Euro Tour winner shared his youngster’s on-course progress, from practice on the range to hardware-hoisting, with his nearly 1.6 million Twitter followers.
Luke just made a lovely birdie on the 3rd par 3. Then has made a solid par on the 4th. Level par today. Come on Luke.

— Ian Poulter (@IanJamesPoulter) January 5, 2014 So proud of Luke he actually gave a little speech as well after his victory. Must have been emotional he fell asleep in the car. Tough day.
— Ian Poulter (@IanJamesPoulter) January 6, 2014 As for the Poulter-Elkington online duel, both gents are hardly shy about voicing their views over social media and the former, who does go on about the luxurious autos in his garage, can be somewhat prickly. The latter, however, has a real talent for putting his virtual foot in his mouth, as he did when he idiotically joked about a fatal helicopter crash in Scotland in November, and for generally ticking off the Twitterati.
Here’s a smattering from their type-off, which seemed to start innocently enough but blossomed into a full-blown cat fight involving not-so-innocent bystanders:
"@ghostofhogan: Where's Poulter Shooting in the winners tournament ?.....// don't think he's playing chief... Waxin the Bentley
— Steve Elkington (@elkpga) January 3, 2014 Why is @IanJamesPoulter stalking me and @ghostofhogan ... He has us blocked Must be looking for swing tips... Ill give you a lesson Ian
— Steve Elkington (@elkpga) January 4, 2014 If you don't follow me or @ghostofhogan why are you talking to us ? Shouldn't we be aloud to tweet? @IanJamesPoulter
— Steve Elkington (@elkpga) January 4, 2014 Actually @elkpga I haven't blocked you I just don't follow tools. You can give me a lesson in Scotland if you fancy. I will bring the fans.
— Ian Poulter (@IanJamesPoulter) January 4, 2014 Has anyone in the game have thinner skin than@IanJamesPoulter
— Steve Elkington (@elkpga) January 4, 2014 Sorry friends for being dragged down by @elkpga. But I don't put up with people who trash talk behind someones back. It's Cowardly
