Tiger Woods had the full support of his girlfriend Lindsey Vonn before he went public with his Internet blast at Golf Digest’s Dan Jenkins for writing a made-up interview with the 14-time major champion.

Woods’ post -- which he wrote for Derek Jeter’s website, theplayerstribune.com -- ripped Jenkins for the article that appears in the publication’s December issue under a heading that clearly states the following is a “fake” interview. Woods termed the piece -- which did not appear online at the GolfDigest.com website until he called it out -- journalistically unethical, a view that Vonn applauded.

“We talked about the article and that he was going to say something,” Vonn told USA Today Sports on Tuesday, after the stuff hit the virtual fan. “I completely agree with him. I agree with his statement and I’m glad that he did it. That’s not journalism. It was like a fabricated interview, like what [Jenkins] thinks Tiger would say.”

(That was pretty much the point of the exercise.)

“But it went way too far, and it wasn’t very clear that it was a joke, that it was fabricated,” added Vonn, who must have delved head first into the meat of the unfunny parody (just one reader’s opinion) without perusing the headline. “If you read it, you might think that it was actually Tiger talking.”

(Only if you don’t get what “fake” means, which Woods apparently had some trouble discerning as well.)

Vonn, like Woods, is preparing to return to competition after injury. She plans to make her first post-knee surgery race on Dec. 5, while he will take his first tournament swing since August on Dec. 3 at his Hero World Challenge. As if it weren’t already, Tiger’s pre-tourney presser -- thanks to the whole Jenkins dust-up -- will truly be appointment viewing.
