Northern Trust Open 2014 streaming: How to watch online, TV schedule and more

Golf Channel will have the second round from “Riv” in LA, where conditions are extremely different from most of the rest of the country.

Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports

The west coast swing is sadly winding down, and the final California stop of the season will make the cut Friday night (pace of play permitting) at Riviera. The Northern Trust Open is the only LA-area stop, and it’s played at one of the more historic courses on the annual rota. Riviera is a different kind of challenge for the pros, with some unique holes and a more classic setup. It’s regularly rated among the top three or four courses by touring pros, and serves as the full field end of an underrated and overlooked west coast swing (in my opinion, the best non-major stretch of the entire season, given the venues and uniqueness of each event).

Golf Channel continues their first and second round coverage during the west coast swing, but the broadcast is pushed back a little bit this week and starts at 5 p.m. ET. The coverage will run for the customary three hours, and Dustin Johnson, who holds the 18-hole lead at 5-under, will be out in the afternoon with Justin Rose and Jim Furyk. So expect to see every shot of DJ’s during that three-hour window. Matt Kuchar, Hunter Mahan, and Ernie Els are also some of the other familiar names playing in the second wave.

If you’re unable to watch on TV, Golf Channel will have the usual simulcast stream up and running on their LiveExtra service. But unlike recent weeks when GC has split a tournament broadcast with CBS, there will be no featured holes or featured group stream running earlier in the day on PGATour.com. You’re stuck with the late Friday afternoon/evening telecast. Here are you media options for the second round:

Friday’s 2nd round coverage:

TV: Golf Channel - 5 to 8 p.m. ET

Online: GolfChannel LiveExtra simulcast 5 to 8 p.m.

Radio: Sirius-XM PGA Tour Network (Ch. 93/208), 2 to 8 p.m.
