Northern Trust Open 2014 purse: Bubba Watson cashes $1.2 million at Riviera

Bubba’s career earnings continue to climb with his second huge payday in the last three weeks.

Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports

At this point, Bubba Watson isn’t really grinding out on the PGA Tour, but the marketable star will take another million-plus payday thanks to his first win since the 2012 Masters. Watson, who reiterates that he’s never taken a lesson, didn’t exactly have the country club background and pathway that many pro golfers enjoy, but he’s now banked more than $21.3 million in his PGA Tour career.

Watson will take home a $1,206,000 winner’s check for winning the Northern Trust Open on Sunday. The money is obviously important, but Bubba’s back-to-back rounds of 64 on the weekend are some of the best golf ever played at this historic tournament on one the country’s classic courses, Riviera. It’s a nice rebound from the giveaway in Phoenix two weeks ago, when he airmailed his approach shot on the 72nd hole and then missed a relatively short par putt to hand Kevin Stadler the win. He earned $545,600 that day, but the $1.2 million winner’s check, his first in almost two years, makes for a much sweeter Sunday.

Watson will now jet back to Arizona for the first of four extremely lucrative WGC events this year. The WGC-Match Play, like all WGC events, has an $9 million purse, which is larger than the first three majors (the PGA just bumped their purse to $10 million).

Here are the final payouts for the field that made the cut at Riviera:
