Play at the 2014 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am was suspended Thursday due to darkness after heavy rain delayed action for over three hours. Breaking down the 'celebrity' golfers
When if comes to the Pebble beach Pro-Am, the word 'celebrity' is pretty broadly defined. Here's a breakdown of some of the amateurs you may or may not already know. Loupe, a 25-year-old PGA Tour rookie, has yet to make a cut in five tournament starts. He took to the Monterey Peninsula Country Club Shore Course and hit eight birdies with no bogeys across 18 holes. Granted, the MPCC course may be the easiest of the tournament. Among the current top-16 golfers, nine played Monterey Peninsula, including five of the top six. Still, the day was one to savor for Loupe, who will try to defend his lead on Pebble Beach on Friday.
Phil Mickelson is among the players who still need to finish up their Day 1 rounds. He is currently at 5-under through 15 holes on Monterey Peninsula, giving him a chance to catch Loupe through 18 holes. D.A. Points (5-under thru 15), Brian Davis (5-under thru 16) and Rory Sabbatini (5-under thru 16) are also within striking distance of the top of the leaderboard.
Hunter Mahan and Dustin Johnson were among the favorites heading into the Pro-Am, and both are currently sitting at 4-under after finishing their rounds on Pebble Beach and Spyglass Hill, respectively. Brandt Snedeker, the tournament’s defending champion, is far behind at even-par after 18 holes. Thankfully for him, he has two more rounds to make up ground thanks to a rule change that won’t enact a cut until after the third day.
Those who have yet to finish Round 1 will try to do so early Friday morning, though they may have to fight the weather yet again. The forecast calls for more rain Friday and into the weekend, with Saturday morning and early Sunday evening expected to be the heaviest periods of precipitation for the area.
