Masters 2014 leaderboard: Bill Haas in the clubhouse at 4-under, Adam Scott 1 back

Bill Haas is the new leader in the clubhouse after carding a 4-under 68.

Despite near-perfect weather, scoring conditions have been tough at Augusta National on Thursday. Bill Haas was the first person to card a round in the 60s and he’s now the leader in the clubhouse after shooting a 4-under round of 68.

While he was solid throughout the round, Haas did some of his best work through Amen Corner. Many have had their rounds fall apart through the stretch, but Haas played the three holes at 1-under. He followed a birdie at No. 13 with another at the 14th to move into the lead. He dropped a shot at No. 17 to fall back into a tie for the lead, but retook sole possession of the top spot on the leaderboard with a closing birdie.

Haas leads by a stroke over Adam Scott and Louis Oosthuizen. Scott has five birdies on the round through 16 holes, but ran into some trouble at No. 12 when his tee shot found Rae’s Creek. The double bogey is the only blemish on his round. He’s missed a couple putts that would have pushed him further into the red, but he’s hitting the ball extremely well, hitting 13 of 16 greens.

Scott entered the tournament as the co-betting favorite along with Rory McIlroy. McIlroy is also near the top of the leaderboard, currently 2-under and tied for fourth place. Patrick Reed and Jimmy Walker are also 2-under. The day hasn’t gone as well for Jason Dufner. The PGA Champ is 7-over, despite making the turn at even par. The big issues came at No. 13 when he carded a quadruple-bogey 9.

The course has gotten the better of the field thus far, currently playing at slightly less than three strokes over par.
