The 2014 Masters were entertaining, even if many decided to skip the event. The final round had the lowest overnight ratings since 2004, coming in at 7.8, via Austin Karp. In 2004, the final round took place on Easter when Phil Mickelson took his first green jacket.

The tournament featured a likeable Southern boy in Bubba Watson winning his second Masters championship, but with a non-competitive Rory McIlroy, Mickelson missing the cut and an ailing Tiger Woods, Sunday lacked national sizzle. The best overnight rating took place back in 2001 at the height of Tiger’s dominance, when the final round drew a massive 12.9 rating, per Karp.
As our Emily Kay wrote, the Masters have been taking a hit all week both on television and at the ticket office. Last year, ESPN amassed an average of 3.5 million viewers for its Round One and Two coverage. This year, the number was markedly low, down to 2.2 million.
