Phil Mickelson’s first U.S. Open win would earn $1.5 million for a lucky Callaway fan

Phil Mickelson teams up with Callaway on a U.S. Open contest worth up to $1.5 million for anyone willing to demo one of the company’s new Big Bertha models.

If Phil Mickelson pulls a rabbit out of the hat and somehow captures his first U.S. Open title next month at Pinehurst, one lucky fan may win $1.5 million from Callaway.

Mickelson, as any diehard Lefty-ologist is aware, owns a record six second-place outcomes at his national championship, and with his game way off heading into the June 12 start, his chances of breaking his streak of runner-up finishes this year seem slim. Should he rally and overcome the odds, however, and you have had the foresight to demo his sponsor’s new Big Bertha ahead of time, you and he could be cashing checks for $1.5 million each.

Your part is pretty simple -- sample a Big Bertha Alpha driver, Big Bertha driver, or a Big Bertha fairway wood at participating retailers through June 15, receive a code to enter the contest, and keep your fingers crossed that Phil does his part against a robust field of the best golfers in the world minus one Tiger Woods. Should Mickelson pull down the winner’s purse of $1.5 million, give or take, you’ll be that dollar amount richer as well.

Here’s Phil to tease you into rooting for him to make that $1 million putt and “have a chance to feel that same anxiety.”

Btw -- no matter where Phil finishes, a Callaway customer could win his pay check. The last-place finisher who made the cut at Merion in 2013 took home $16,523 (full payout totals here), so there’s a nice chunk of change on the line regardless of how Phil finishes. And if he goes the way of his last two big starts, missed cuts at the Masters and The Players, the drawing winner would still walk away with that last place weekend money.

We get plenty of annoying PR emails and see lots of ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ #brand campaigns, but this is a good bit of creativity from the Callaway folks in the insanely competitive drivers market.
