Watch long drive champ Joe Miller smash a golf ball through a watermelon at Wentworth

A watermelon doesn’t stand a chance vs. a former long-drive champion who drives a golf ball through the fruit, exploding it into tiny pieces.

Rory McIlroy may have made mincemeat out of a Wentworth track that formerly ate his lunch, but a former long-drive champion chopped the 17th and 18th holes into bite-sized bits with mammoth tee shots of some 450 yards -- after exploding his ball through a watermelon.

The effect of Joe Miller, the world’s most prodigious driver of a golf ball in 2010, smashing the fruit to smithereens is spectacular, as you can see starting at 0:53 in the European Tour-produced video.

The six-foot, four-inch Miller takes apart the back-to-back par-five signature finishing holes on the course that hosted McIlroy’s come-from-behind BMW PGA victory on Sunday with huge drives at a blinding 153 m.p.h. club head speed and simple approach shots with “little” wedges in his enormous hands.

The Callaway pitchman who took out the defenseless melon with a 5.5-degree, 48-inch X2Hot driver explains how to rip monster drives on the 610-yard 17th and 18th, measuring 539 yards: just clear your hips and let your hands and club come through at the last minute. Pretty simple, really.

Of course, you may want to check with your club pros before splattering melon brain matter all over their tee boxes, and, yes, at least one watermelon was harmed in the making of this video.
