Tiger Woods may have taken himself out of contention at the U.S. Open in two weeks, but he’ll pass the family baton to his niece, Cheyenne Woods, who will tee it up at Pinehurst a week later in the U.S. Women’s Open.

Cheyenne Woods will play in her 2nd U.S. Women’s Open next month at Pinehurst.

The younger Woods qualified on Wednesday for the second of back-to-back national championships on the famed Pinehurst No. 2 course. It was coincidentally the same day that her uncle announced his surgically repaired back had forced him out of the men’s competition.

— Cheyenne Woods (@Cheyenne_Woods) May 29, 2014 Cheyenne Woods posted rounds of 73, 68 at the Country Club of DC Ranch in Scottsdale, Ariz., to make her way to the grand slam event slated for June 19-June 22, according to Will Gray. Her 1-under total of 141 was tied for second and good enough to capture one of three positions eligible for the tourney.
Woods, who earned her first professional victory when she won the Ladies European Tour’s Volvik Ladies Masters in Australia in February, will make her second start at a U.S. Women’s Open. After qualifying to play at Blackwolf Run in 2012, Woods missed the cut.
