Most people that write these types of posts will tell you, “I am not a gambling man,” and then ramble on about who they would bet on. Well, I AM a gambling man. Not to the point where I need to enter a program, but it is fun to bet on big sporting events. In fact, my $50 bet on Jordan Spieth at the Masters was oh-so-close to providing an easy payday.
U.S. Open 2014 odds: Finding some good bets at Pinehurst
Tiger Woods is always the overwhelming favorite, but with the three-time U.S. Open winner absent, who are some of the top players with good odds or good value early in the week at Pinehurst?

As of June 10, here are the odds for players in the 2014 U.S. Open. There are several intriguing bets out there. Here are a few.
Rory McIlroy, 10/1 - As of now, he is the favorite. If the course gets some rain, Rory might be able to get something going similar to what he did in 2011 at a very soft Congressional. But this is an entirely different setup and one that hasn’t always been the kindest to Rory.
Dustin Johnson, 33/1 - An intriguing pick at 33/1. The course is long which is where DJ makes his money. If his short game is on or even adequate, he will contend.
Sergio Garcia, 33/1 - Sergio is top 5 on Tour in scrambling. If the greens play as tough as some people have predicted, Sergio’s scrambling ability could help him bring home his first major. The stats, form, and odds still don’t remove the general unease of trying to ride that horse at a major.
Jason Dufner, Graeme McDowell, 40/1 - Duf Daddy has been top 5 the last two U.S. Opens. GMac hits fairways and greens in regulation. Both trends bode well for a high finish this week.
Zach Johnson, 50/1 - These are some odds that can make you some cash. ZJ is accurate with his short irons, which will be imperative this week. Players will need to hit greens to contend.
Miguel Angel Jimenez, 125/1 - Ah, why the hell not? The most interesting man in golf will make your weekend more interesting if he were to win.
