Reviewing some good, and some fake 2014 U.S. Open prop bets and player odds

The U.S. Open is one of the longest four-day golf events of the year, so here are some prop bets to help get you through the grind at Pinehurst and keep you entertained.

Andrew Redington

So we’ve already looked at U.S. Open odds. To do well on those bets, you simply pick who you think will win. Pretty easy, right? Well how about the prop bets? You know, the fun bets? Here are some of my favorites.

Will Phil Mickelson make the cut? (Yes: 1/5, No: 13/4) - If you don’t think Phil will make the cut, you could make some quick cash here. With the claw putting grip coming back into the fold, it’s possible that he has no idea what’s going on with the flat stick.

Will (insert golfer here) make a hole-in-one? (100/1) - If you like throwing money away, you can bet on whether or not your favorite golfer will make a hole-in-one. Adam Scott, Bubba Watson, Rory McIlroy, and many more are all open for betting here. If you are into this bet, Shawn Stefani did make an ace last year.

I think it would be more fun to light your cash on fire, however.

Will Sergio Garcia finish in the top 10? (5/2) - Love this bet. Despite the recent injury issue, I think Sergio has the game and form to finish top 10.

Top American Player - Jordan Spieth at 11/1 is JUICY. Same odds for Matt Kuchar.

Rory McIlroy, Adam Scott, Phil Mickelson, Bubba Watson vs. the field (11/4) - If you think one of those four guys is going to win it, take this bet. I’m leaning towards this group.

Since we know prop bets are fun and mildly thought-provoking, I thought I would introduce some prop bets of my own. You all have one million Internet bucks to spend.

Number of Twitter Avatar changes for Caroline Wozniacki (over/under 1.5) - Tough to say here. I don’t think she changes it twice, but if she does, you could make some serious Internet cash.

Number of times Johnny Miller mentions his U.S. Open final round of 63 (over/under 3) - This is a tough one because, just like Terrell Owens, Johnny Miller loves him some himself. He will tell us how easy the game is, but I have to think he has been warned about mentioning his great final round at Oakmont in 1973. Dan Hicks will most likely mention it, but THAT DOESN’T COUNT.

“Native Area” will be mentioned within the first 30 seconds of the ESPN broadcast (15/1) - I like this one a lot. Chances are high someone mentions it right from the jump, and then again a minute later, and again, and again, and again ...

Number of times Chris Berman bungles his way through a phrase/name or is otherwise unintelligible (under/over infinity) - Take the over.

So those are some of your better real (and not so real) prop bets. Here are the up-to-date odds with one more day of practice to go. Rory and Adam still holding strong at the top (via Bovada):
