The greens at Pinehurst No. 2 are incredibly difficult, but first you have to get there. Justin Rose had some issues with the latter task, chunking a chip shot on No. 8.
Justin Rose chunks the worst shot of the 1st round
Justin Rose is the leader in the clubhouse for worst shot of the 2014 U.S. Open.
This would have been a poor shot for a weekend hacker, yet alone the defending U.S. Open champion. Rose was so disgusted with the effort, he decided he’d had enough of the club, letting it go shortly after making chunky contact.
You know a shot is bad when one of the elite players in the world is left to just stare at his divot hole in disbelief. As bad as that shot was, it may not have even been Rose’s worst chunk shot of the year. He had a similar result earlier this year at Copperhead and was similarly displeased with his club (via Adam Sarson)
Rose’s next effort at No. 8 was much better and he managed to tap in for a bogey.
