More than 50 players are currently within three strokes of the lead at the U.S. Open, but Bubba Watson and Adam Scott are not among them. Scott, the No. 1 player in the world, and Watson, the Masters champion, are both having some early issues at Pinehurst No. 2.

Conditions aren’t as hard as some expected them to be in the first round, but a few notable names are still having a rough go of it.
Scott got off to a solid start, opening the round with four pars before recording a birdie at No. 5. That, however, is his only red number of the day thus far. Following bogeys at Nos. 7 and 9, Scott made the turn at 1-over. He dropped another stroke at No. 13 and is currently 2-over, tied for 56th place.
While Scott’s issues have him teetering on the edge of contention, Watson is in serious danger of missing the cut. He made the turn at 3-over and opened the back nine with a double bogey on the par-5 10th hole. Another bogey at No. 14 dropped him to 6-over on the round and eight strokes off the lead. While there is a lot of golf to play before a cut is made, Watson will need to make up some ground. The cut line is currently hovering at 2-over.
Martin Kaymer has had a more successful go of it in the afternoon. He is currently 2-under through 12 holes, tied for a share of the lead. He’s one of four players currently at 2-under. Here is a complete look at the U.S. Open leaderboard. A live leaderboard can be found at USOpen.com.
