The golf course is humiliating a great majority of the field on Saturday at the U.S. Open, but that doesn’t foreclose quick individual moments of brilliance (and maybe a little bit of good fortune).

This is as good a hole-out eagle as you’ll see this year.
While everyone else was busy imploding, including Toru Taniguchi’s 18-over round of 88, Champions Tour ace Kenny Perry delivered the shot of the tournament so far. Perry is the oldest player in the field at 53 years, but he can still hang with the younger guys when it comes to bombing it off the tee and overall length with his irons.
Perry is way down the board at 10-over, but still has the highlight of the day so far -- a brilliant hole-out for eagle at the par-4 14th. It’s a tough 479-yard hole, and Perry put his drive in some of that native waste area junk. It’s hard to predict how the ball will come out, and Perry had what looked to be a hybrid. After chopping down on it, the ball drew some 20 yards from the right side and ran up onto the front of the green tracking ... tracking ... tracking
Boom. That’s an incredible result and will be tough to beat for shot of the weekend.
