Tiger Woods: Accept the Ice Bucket Challenge or ante up

Tiger Woods -- Tag! You’re It!

The former No. 1, whose back was up to the challenge of last week’s Quicken Loans National but whose game was not, is the latest professional golfer to be called out and dared to man (or woman) up to the new Ice Bucket Challenge that’s meme-ing it’s way through the golf world.

It’s unclear exactly when the new game began (check out #IceBucketChallenge on Twitter), though Rickie Fowler and Keegan Bradley were among the first to take the plunge. Since then, several touring players have taken to social media to provoke each other to douse themselves with ice water.

The chain-letter type deal is that you accept the dare, pour a bucket of chilly H2O over your head while recording it on Instagram or Twitter, and then shout out a few other names to keep the ball rolling. If you don’t meet the test within 24 hours, you have to reach into your pocket and donate some $100 to charity.

Among those giving themselves the Gatorade treatment have been U.S. Women’s Open winner Michelle Wie, who taunted Jessica Korda, who did her part and passed the baton to Suzann Pettersen.

Stacy Lewis, who won her third tour victory last week, in her home state of Arkansas, got co-runner-up Lydia Ko, who tagged Lexi Thompson, who did not disappoint.

Ian Poulter may be the latest linksman to get in on the act, and he tapped three U.S. Open champions -- Justin Rose (2013) Martin Kaymer (2014), and Woods (2000, 2002, 2008). Rose also was the last man standing in a playoff at Congressional, long after tourney host Tiger had missed the cut.

Tiger, as his rep goes, is kinda on the cheap side, so he might just take the pail over reaching into his pouch, but we wouldn’t bet on it.
