Scottish Open 2014: Tee times, TV schedule and online streaming for Friday’s second round

Rory McIlroy got off to a good start in his final tuneup before The Open. Will he continue that on Friday at the Scottish Open?

Andrew Redington

Many of the best players in the world are currently in Scotland, playing in the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open. The European Tour event is a popular destination this week with the links-style course a very good place to prepare for the British Open next week at Royal Liverpool. The field includes Rory McIlroy, who surged into the first-round lead with a 7-under round of 64.

McIlroy has had mixed results in The Open with a tie for third in 2010, the only time he’s finished better than a tie for 25th. He missed the cut last year and was a non-factor in 2012 when he finished tied for 60th. The fact he played so well at Royal Aberdeen on Thursday could bode well for his chances next week. Links golf can be a very tough adjustment, especially for players who spend the majority of time playing on the PGA Tour. McIlroy had no issues adjusting to the links setup in the first round, rolling in eight birdies to go along with just one bogey. Continued success on Friday could set him up to contend for the tournament over the weekend. Phil Mickelson proved success in the Scottish Open can carry over when he won the Scottish Open last year then went on to win the British Open.

Mickelson is once again playing the Scottish Open in preparation and while he didn’t match McIlroy’s 64, he did play well in the first round. Mickelson finished the day with two birdies and an eagle, on his way to a 3-under round of 68. Those two birdies included one where Mickelson got up-and-down from the cart path. He hit a pure wedge from the pavement, sticking the approach just a few feet from the pin.

McIlroy will play in the afternoon wave on Friday. He’ll be joined by Jamie Donaldson and Thongchai Jaidee, and the three are scheduled to tee off at 8:20 a.m. ET. Mickelson and his pairing of Luke Donald and Joost Luiten will tee off two groups earlier at 8 a.m. Several other notable players including Justin Rose, Rickie Fowler and Ian Poulter will also be in action. Poulter will play in the afternoon group with a 8:10 a.m. tee time while Fowler and Rose will play in the morning. Rose is scheduled to tee off at 3:20 a.m., playing with Lee Westwood and Stephen Gallacher. Fowler will go off one group later, with a 3:30 a.m. tee time.

Golf Channel will provide early morning live coverage with the broadcast scheduled to run from 5:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The six hours of coverage will allow viewers to see all of the notable names in the field with the players in the late groups likely the focus of the coverage. The broadcast will also be available online with a live simulcast stream from NBC Sports LiveExtra.

Here is a complete look at the coverage for Friday and the second-round tee sheet. All times Eastern.
