Tiger Woods tips his cap to retiring Derek Jeter in new Nike commercial

Tiger Woods appears in a new Nike ad saluting retiring Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter and it’s something of a tear-jerker.

Steve Flynn-USA TODAY Sports

When Tiger Woods goes on his farewell tour, he can only hope that Nike puts together a compilation of A-listers and regular folks tipping their caps to one of the greatest ever to play the game that’s as respectful and moving as the commercial the Beaverton gang aired for retiring Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter.

Yeah, it’s just an ad, but see if you can get through it without the tear that it brought to the eye of this life-long Red Sox fan. Woods makes his appearance at 0:47 of the video, which showcases a slew of other celebs including Michael Jordan, Phil Jackson, Jay Z, and Spike Lee paying their respects to No. 2.

Boston homer Keegan Bradley also gets in on the act on Twitter

Jeter, who announced in February that he would hang up his cleats at the end of the 2014 season, has been accepting gifts along the route of his so-long swing, with the conventional set of golf golf clubs from the Houston Astros early in the season one of the first of several donations to his upcoming days of leisure.

The Astros also gave Jeter, a purported 30-ish handicapper, lessons with Tiger’s old coach, Butch Harmon, as Woods’ old pal Mark O’Meara and PGA Tour golfers Johnson Wagner and Lucas Glover showed up to wish the captain well.
