Bubba Watson didn’t have a very good day on Thursday at the Open Championship. The two-time Masters winner is always on edge when it comes to crowd control and fans affecting his play, and he had a bit of an outburst during a particularly rough stretch of his disappointing 4-over opening round. But aside from the usual Bubba whining and some suboptimal play, Watson’s greatest moment of ignominy may have come during an ESPN quiz asking the players to name all four Beatles.

John, Paul, Ringo, and George are cited repeatedly during a broadcast every time the Open comes to Royal Liverpool, their native town. So ESPN decided to get the players involved and ask them who made up the most famous group in history. Now, all of these players are from a different generation, but still ... it’s the Beatles. This may have been cut creatively by ESPN, but the failure to name all four by so many players, especially Brits, was startling. But no one was worse than Bubba, who couldn’t name a single person from the group.
Yes, while most guys couldn’t come up with George Harrison, Bubba couldn’t even pull either Lennon or McCartney.
Yikes. Of course, Bubba was the same person who struggled to remember the name of “the big tower” and “arch” and the museum that begins with an “L” when he played the French Open in Paris back in 2011.
Let’s just let Bubba play golf and avoid the history and culture lessons when he travels abroad.
