Tiger Woods hits into the junk on 3 straight shots, starts with disastrous double bogey

For the second straight day, Tiger Woods dug himself an early hole at Royal Liverpool.

Despite playing much of Royal Liverpool very well, the first hole hasn’t been a strong point for Tiger Woods. Even when he won the British Open at 18-under in 2006, he played No. 1 at 1-over during the week. The hole caused issues on Thursday with Woods opening the tournament with a bogey and the problems were even worse on Friday.

It started off the tee where Woods yanked one way left and onto the wrong hole. His ball cleared the left rough, flew over a rail separating No. 18 from No. 1 and settled into the thick junk that lines the 18th fairway.

Unfortunately for Woods, that was only the start of his trouble on the hole. He tried to punch out on his second shot and actually ended up getting too much of the ball, flying it through the fairway and into thick rough around the first green. Tiger didn’t take much time sizing up the shot, possibly because there wasn’t much of one. He wasn’t able to do anything with his third shot, sending it over the green and into more of high stuff on his third straight shot. Wheeee ...

Woods was unable to get up-and-down to save bogey, instead tapping in for an opening-hole double. Woods is now 4-over on No. 1 in six rounds at Royal Liverpool. The problems then continued on No. 2 , where Woods missed a par putt and settled for a bogey. He’s now 3-over on the round and back to even-par for the tournament.
