RBC Canadian Open 2014: Tee times, TV schedule, online streaming for Friday

An unknown amateur stole the show late on Thursday, but Friday will feature the Canadian Open’s top group out in the afternoon during the broadcast window.

Michael Adamucci

A benign Royal Montreal setup on Thursday was open to several scores in the mid-60s, and a pretty deep set of players will start round two in the red. But even with the solid group under-par, the story of the first day was probably an unknown amateur, Taylor Pendrith.

Pendrith will start the second round just a shot off the lead after firing a 5-under 65 in his first ever PGA Tour appearance. A Canadian amateur who just finished up at Kent State, Pendrith rolled in seven birdies in his opening round, including one huge putt at the 18th to pull into a two-way tie for second. The Canadian winless-streak at their own championship has started to overwhelm this event at times. We’re now 60 years out since the last time a Canadian native won his national championship. Pendrith probably isn’t the best, or even a good bet to be the one of the 19 Canadians in the field this year, but at least he’s in the mix early and gives the locals someone to follow. After hitting one of the last putts of the day on Thursday evening, he flips to the morning wave and will be out in the last tee time of the first wave at 9 a.m. ET.

Golf Channel will have the second round coverage again on Friday, pushing things back an hour from their usual pre-weekend broadcast. They’ll come on the air a 4 p.m. and cover the late afternoon wave, which will feature Dustin Johnson, Brandt Snedeker, Hunter Mahan, and Ernie Els. Johnson and Snedeker were the two main combatants on Sunday last year Snedeker is back under par but Johnson will need to go real low just to make the cut after shooting a 4-over 74 on Thursday. Mahan held last year’s 36-hole lead before he walked off the driving range and withdrew when he found out his wife had gone into labor. Mahan, Snedeker, and Johnson will tee off at 1:15 p.m. ET, so most of their back nine should be in front of the cameras. If you’re unable to watch on TV, Golf Channel will also have their usual simulcast running online via their LiveExtra service. Here are all your media options for the second round:
