Greenbrier Classic 2014: Tee times, TV schedule, streaming for Thursday’s first round

The Greenbrier Classic will get underway from Old White TPC on Thursday with players competing for part of a $6.5 million purse and possible a spot in the Open Championship.

Bob Donnan-USPRESSWIRE

With the start of the British Open now two weeks away, players already in the field are focused on refining their form while others are playing for a spot in the field at Royal Liverpool. There will be a mix of both at Old White TPC this week when the Greenbrier Classic gets underway. Several players in the field, including defending champion Jonas Blixt, already have a spot in the British Open field. Many others, however, are not qualified and could play their way into a bid.

The top four unqualified players who finish inside the top 12 this week will earn a spot in the Open Championship field. With just 30 players in the field qualified for the Open, many will be playing with more than just the tournament at stake. The field this week will be a little unique with a few players participating who you rarely see on the PGA Tour. Tom Watson will play in his final British Open this year, but before he does, he’ll tee it up in the field on Thursday. It will be just his third event of the season and he’ll be paired with Webb Simpson and Keegan Bradley in the first round. Nick Faldo will also play this week in preparation for the Open in two weeks. It will be his second event of PGA Tour season, joining the RBC Heritage. Faldo will play with John Rollins and Cameron Tringale in one of the late groups on Thursday. Other notable pairings including Bubba Watson playing with Brendon Todd and J.B. Holmes while Patrick Reed will tee off in a group with Bill Haas and Steve Stricker. John Daly will make his 10th PGA Tour start of the season.

Golf Channel will handle first-round television coverage with the broadcast scheduled to run from 3 to 7 p.m. ET. Bradley, Bubba Watson, Tom Watson, Simpson and others will tee off in the afternoon wave and are likely to be one of the main draws of the broadcast. The broadcast will also be available online with a live simulcast stream from NBC LiveExtra. Radio coverage from PGA Tour Radio on Sirius-XM will be available from 1 to 7 p.m.
