Bubba Watson’s doubly sorry for acting like a brat at Valhalla

Bubba Watson heads to Twitter twice during the PGA Championship to apologize for being a boor and to thank critics for pointing out that he’s a boor.

Bubba Watson should come with the instructions you find on a bottle of shampoo: lather, rinse, repeat.

The reigning Masters champion has a penchant for working people up into a righteous pother, washing away the insults with an apology, and then agitating Bubba watchers with yet another ill-advised word or action. We’ve seen it with his boorish comments on Paris and the French fans during the 2011 French Open, throwing his caddie under the golf cart more than once for his own on-course errors, and more recently at the British Open.

But Baby Bubba has been in full froth this week in Valhalla, running through the entire cycle in the few short days of his stay at the PGA Championship but offering a slight variation on the theme.

After the golf world took him to task for his head-scratching protest of a harmless, pre-tourney exhibition, the double Masters winner was skewered for his petulant boohooing about how the world was conspiring against him by making him actually play in the rain for a share of the $10 million PGA purse.

Dave Kindred of Golf Digest was especially scathing and brilliant in taking Watson to task for the hypocrisy between his professed faith and the expletive-deleted way he comported himself on the course on Friday -- dropping the f-bomb, throwing a club, and generally making an ass of himself.

What followed was the usual tweeted mea culpa, with Bubba promising, yet again, to change his ways.

A day later, Watson offered a variation on his “#urwelcome” theme when he thanked his Twitter and media critics -- whom he claimed he willfully ignored during the Open Championship -- for showing him the errors of his ways.

Um, urwelcome?
