WGC Bridgestone Invitational 2014: Tee times, pairings for Saturday’s round at Firestone

Gregory Shamus

We are now halfway through the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational and it has been entertaining, to say the least. Sergio Garcia seems to be poised for a big weekend run after making birdie on eight of his final nine holes. He will have to hold off challengers such as Rory McIlroy, Justin Rose and other former major champions.

For the third round, tee times have been pushed up because of the weather forecast. It appears that rain is going to be an issue as we head into the weekend. Because of the weather, golfers will hit the course at 7 a.m. ET, in groups of three.

One of the more interesting groups is Tiger Woods, Bubba Watson, and Jimmy Walker. The last two guys are locks to be on the US Ryder Cup team, and Woods is struggling to assure himself a spot. It will be worth watching to see how this group fairs; they could be heading to Gleneagles together in a couple months. This threesome tees off at 7:40am on the first tee.

Another fascinating group features Rory McIlroy and Rickie Fowler (along with Charl Schwartzel). Rory and Rickie represent the future of the game and are coming off a duel at the Open Championship. By all accounts they are good friends and should provide a good show early Saturday morning.

There is no cut in this tournament, so everyone that started this thing on Thursday will be out there tomorrow. Guys that haven’t been setting the world on fire (the opposite of Sergio Garcia and Rory McIlroy, if you will) like Woods and Phil Mickelson will be making the turn as you eat breakfast. It should make for an entertaining morning as the top 70 or so golfers in the world will look to make a move.

Here’s a look at the tee sheet for the third round.
