Twitter explodes as ‘Tiger Woods watch’ turns surreal at Valhalla

News that Tiger Woods had arrived at Valhalla for Thursday’s kickoff to the PGA Championship sparks a media frenzy.

Tiger Woods drove Twitter absolutely crazy after BREAKING NEWS of his arrival at Valhalla in advance of tomorrow’s opening round of the PGA Championship swamped any talk of the dawning of the age of Rory McIlroy or of any others hoping to win the final major on the men’s 2014 schedule.

Hey, it’s Freakin’ Tiger Woods, y’all! And he was reportedly returning, a la Willis Reed, to the site of his 2000 PGA victory after withdrawing from last week’s WGC Bridgestone Invitational at Firestone due to a back injury that may or may not have been related to his March 31 surgery.

The PGA of America announced Tiger’s arrival, only to backtrack a few minutes later that the former world No. 1 was maybe in the area but not yet on-site for a reported 2 p.m. ET practice round with his unofficial putting guru and newly named assistant U.S. Ryder Cup captain, Steve Stricker.

The media frenzy got so out of control that fans began gawking at Tiger’s empty parking space

All of which spawned a new Twitter account that Matt Ginella noted signaled the end of times.

Then came word that the PGA got ahead of itself in announcing Tiger’s arrival.

With the air thick with anticipation in Louisville, Woods’ actual arrival upstaged U.S. Ryder Cup captain Tom Watson’s press conference. And so it goes with the needle-mover.
