Valhalla is certainly playing easy on Saturday, but I doubt the PGA of America envisions players going for holes-in-one .. on a par-4. The fourth hole is playing about 80 yards shorter than it has the first two days, measuring right around 292 yards to the hole. Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano sent a bullet dead straight at the flagstick, rolling it over the edge of the cup and just missing an albatross (GIF via Luke Kerr-Dineen/Golf Digest).
Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano just misses hole-in-one on a par-4
This hole should be fun to watch throughout the afternoon. I can already see Rory McIlroy dropping a bomb right on top of the flagstick, although club selection may be an issue! There are birdies everywhere, and this is much more fun than the boring grind of a U.S. Open, where we’re left to talk about the course setup and “native grass areas” a majority of the time.
