Only one round remains in the 2014 PGA Tour season and the final round of the TOUR Championship will begin just like the third round did, with Billy Horschel and Rory McIlroy battling for the lead and the FedEx Cup title. Horschel opened the day with the lead, but a third-round 67 helped McIlroy tie him at the top. Both players will begin the final round at 9-under.
Billy Horschel, Rory McIlroy tied for 3rd round lead at 2014 TOUR Championship
Billy Horschel and Rory McIlroy control their own destinies at the TOUR Championship and they will begin the final round tied for the lead.

Horschel opened the tournament second in the FedEx Cup standings. Either he or McIlroy would take the title and the $10 million first-place prize if they win Sunday. For a while, it appeared Horschel was going to pull away from the field and pencil his name onto the TOUR Championship trophy. He birdied No. 2 and added two more birdies on his opening nine to make the turn at 11-under. He ran into some trouble on the back nine, though, and two bogeys dropped him back toward the field.
McIlroy’s round was up-and-down throughout. He birdied his first hole of the day, but bogeyed No. 2 to give the shot right back. He birdied No. 3 and the roller coaster of a round was on. At times, he looked like he just didn’t have it and the frustration was evident.
A bogey on No. 10 dropped him to even par for his round. He only found one red number coming in, but the red number was an eagle at No. 15 that pulled him even with Horschel. With a pair of major championships and an impressive win at the Bridgestone Invitational already this season, McIlroy could cap the year in supreme style with a winning final round on Sunday. Adding the TOUR Championship and FedEx Cup title to his year would give him two more trophies to add to his collection and ensure he takes home player of the year as well.
McIlroy and Horschel lead the rest of the field by two strokes. Jim Furyk is 7-under and he could walk away with the FedEx Cup title if things break right in the final round. Justin Rose, Rickie Fowler and Jason Day are tied for fourth at 6-under. If points leader Chris Kirk is going to win, he’ll need a strong final round as he is 5-under through 54 holes.
