We’ve reached the weekend at the Ryder Cup, and the European side enters Day 2 with a 5-3 lead over the U.S. The margin was built on afternoon drubbing the Euros put on the Americans, taking three of four matches and halving the other. It’s the most decisive margin ever in that foursomes format for Europe.
2014 Ryder Cup live stream: How to watch Saturday’s matches online
The USA is down two points and has switched things up for Saturday morning’s four ball. NBC will go live with the broadcast right at 3 a.m. ET, and offer a complete simulcast online.

Two points might not seem like a lot, but when you have to get to only 14 to retain the cup and you’re playing at home, it can be a significant cushion. Eight more points will be up for grabs on Saturday, which will have the same schedule -- four four-ball matches beginning at 2:35 a.m. ET, and then a second session of foursomes going off around 8:15 a.m. It makes for one of the longer days in golf, and it’s one of the few times a single network broadcasts consecutively for 11 or so hours.
This is also the first year a European-hosted event has been shown live in its entirety to the American audience. It’s a pretty rough, or impossible, adjustment to get up at 2:30 in the morning and buckle in for a 12-hour day. But you have to do it only every two years. And you can take the opposite approach and just head out until the bars close, a much more realistic option for the second day than the first, which butts up against a workday. NBC will come on the air at 3 a.m. But with the first match going out some 25 minutes prior to that, expect its sister network, Golf Channel, have have like look-ins and show the start of the first couple matches.
Golf Channel will also run its own TV broadcast, something called “Alternate Shot,” which features the odd commentary of David Feherty, who will undoubtedly control the mic remotely from the network’s Orlando studio. Alternate Shot also comes on the air at 3 a.m., and will run concurrent to the normal Ryder Cup broadcast. In addition to Feherty, the broadcast will feature different cameras from the international feed and have sidebar and scroll graphics with stats, TrackMan info and other data on the players’ seasons and Ryder Cup.
As usual, NBC/Golf Channel will provide a livestream simulcast of what’s happening on TV. That goes through NBC’s LiveExtra service. If you’re on mobile, there are several Ryder Cup apps available to download. Here are all your media options for Day 2 in Scotland.
