Patrick Reed motions to European Ryder Cup crowd to shut up
The American rookie provides a Ryder Cup first.
As we’ve noted several times this week, the Ryder Cup is unlike any other event in golf and the closest the game comes to the atmosphere at other sports.
Well, Patrick Reed found a new way to deliver a scene we get from so many other sports, when he told the European crowd to shut the hell up after rolling in a birdie putt. It was a reaction that will undoubtedly unsettle the huffy traditionalists of the game and have the Euros sneering at young Reed.
"To do that you've got to be slightly eccentric or a bit daft. I'm not sure which it is." --Sky Sports announcer on Patrick Reed's antics.
— Alex Myers (@AlexMyers3) September 28, 2014 Reed has been one of the USA’s best players, teaming with fellow rookie Jordan Spieth to earn 2.5 points through their first three matches. The rest of the team only managed 3.5 points through the first two days.
The success comes after concern about how the cocky and brash Reed had pissed off some of the PGA Tour locker room this season with some of his comments about just how good he is at golf. There was worry that he wouldn’t be able to fit into the team or find a partner among the USA contingent. But he’s been one of America’s best players, and won a ton of new fans this week.
