Matt Kuchar holes out from fairway, autographs ball for USA fan

You rarely see golfers sign any autographs in the middle of a round. Matt Kuchar did that and more at the Ryder Cup.

The USA is trying to make the Ryder Cup interesting with a charge in Sunday singles. There’s a long way to go, but they lead in five matches, including Matt Kuchar’s one-on-one tilt against Thomas Bjorn.

Kuchar is 3-up through the first eight holes. It’s easy to build that kind of lead when you don’t have to putt, which is what happened at the 7th hole.

Kuchar took his putter out so he could repair the ball mark the pitch made on the green, but that was the only use it got on this hole.

He also went for a sharpie in his bag, deciding to stop mid-match and autograph the ball for a fan. NBC’s Gary Koch said he was going to give it to one of the “blue crazies” -- the European fans -- at the back of the green. Nah. Kuchar sought out some USA supporters over to the side and delivered the lucky autographed golf ball to this woman.
