There’s been another club casualty on the PGA Tour. This time, Chris Stroud snapped his driver in half on the 9th tee of the BMW Championship at Cherry Hills. Stroud was just a shot off the lead when he sent his driver way right, and reacted by angrily bending the shaft of his club. It snapped with what appeared to be little force.
Chris Stroud snaps driver in half after wayward shot at BMW Championship
It’s always the club’s fault.

Stroud went on to bogey the hole and drop two off the lead at 1-under.
Fortunately, he was finishing his round on the 9th hole and not making the turn. So he’ll probably just pull an extra driver from his locker or get a new one from one of the equipment trucks for Friday’s second round.
It was at this tournament just a year ago when Henrik Stenson snapped the head off his driver, slamming it into the turf at the BMW at Conway Farms. Stenson, a complete hothead who breaks clubs with regularity, then redecorated the clubhouse and destroyed his locker. Presumably the Cherry Hills CC locker room was safe from Stroud.
