Phil Mickelson’s drive lands in the bottom of a fan’s umbrella

A drive into an umbrella, a second shot to a plugged lie against the lip of a bunker, and a par -- the Phil Mickelson way.

Phil Mickelson’s wild drives always manage to find the most obscure lies, but the bottom of an umbrella is a new one. We’ve seen Mickelson play it off the carpet of a hospitality bar, but even he took the proper relief from this lie.

To make matters more interesting, Mickelson then hit his next shot into a bunker, where the ball plugged right up against the lip. He’s a brilliant sand player, but it was still amazing to watch him somehow get up and down and end up with a par that, on the scorecard, definitely does not tell the full adventure of this hole.

Mickelson is 2-up through his first 8 holes and closing in on an undefeated week in Korea.
