These 2 putts best demonstrate the separate angry and benevolent golf gods
The wind is Matt Kuchar’s friend, as a gust blows his ball into the hole in Fiji. Meanwhile, in Portugal, Alvaro Quiros can’t believe his misfortune when a perfectly executed tap-in drops and then leaps back onto the green.

Matt Kuchar and Alvaro Quiros, playing thousands of miles apart from each other on Thursday, top this week’s “you have got to be kidding me” happenings in golf.
First, it was Kuchar, on whom the golf gods were definitely smiling. As he was in mid-stalk around the second hole of the wind-blown opening round of the Fiji International, a mini-squall blew his ball into the cup.
The jubilant U.S. Presidents Cup player eschewed the Fresh Prince fist bump, settling instead for the traditional high five to celebrate his unexpected stroke — or lack thereof — of good luck.
Quiros was not quite so fortunate. Unlike Ernie Els’ “worst putt of all time” of earlier this month, the European Tour golfer actually tapped his ball in for a par on the 12th hole of the Portugal Masters’ first round.
As he bent down to scoop it out, he watched in shock as it jumped back out.
Golf. Damn.
Kuchar, by the way, takes a two-shot lead into the weekend after posting an even-par 72 on Friday to go with his opening 74. Quiros (67, 68) was tied for sixth in Portugal, with second-round play not yet complete.
