It is the International team’s turn to host the Presidents Cup and this year’s edition will be the first in Asia. Jack Nicklaus Golf Club in Incheon, South Korea is the venue for the 11th Presidents Cup and that means middle-of-the-night viewing back in the United States.
2015 Presidents Cup TV schedule: Coverage and start time for Day 1 matches
The Presidents Cup brings 24 of the best players in the world together for one of the game’s most unique events. This year, if you want to watch, you’ll need to become an insomniac.
It’s rare to get primetime golf, but this silly season stretch from October through December often provides it with a string of events in Australia and Asia that attract some of the top American pros. The Presidents Cup will start at different times all four days, ranging from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. in the eastern United States and running as late as 4 a.m. the next day.
Thursday’s opening day should be one of the shorter sessions of the Cup. There are just five foursomes matches, which is one less than the traditional full six-match slate. Nick Price asked to reduce the amount of points and matches in these early two-man sessions, giving him the ability to hide some of his weaker players and keep them on the bench against the much deeper USA roster.
The foursomes format, which is alternate shot, will also move quicker because there are just two balls in play, as opposed to all four players playing their own ball from tee to green. And then there’s the fact that holes can be conceded before the players even get to the green -- not everyone putts out, and matches often don’t go the full 18 holes. So Wednesday night’s session could move quickly and be done at a relatively reasonable hour, say 2 a.m. ET?
Golf Channel will have the coverage for the USA audience, coming on the air at 10 p.m. ET Wednesday night just five minutes before the first match tees off (full match schedule here). The late night and witching hour broadcast is obviously not ideal for the TV partners, but it’s fun to change things up for the die hards who watch these events and would be up anyways. The west coast audience should be able to keep a manageable schedule and get to bed on time Wednesday night after all the matches conclude.
If you’re normal and will be sleeping in the middle of the night, then Golf Channel will replay the session on Thursday afternoon back in the United States. Here are all your media options for Wednesday night / Thursday morning:
