The Internationals will try to build on the momentum of Friday’s successful foursomes session at the Presidents Cup when captain Nick Price sends his South African power duo of Louis Oosthuizen and Branden Grace out first in Saturday morning’s foursomes.
2015 Presidents Cup: Tee times, pairings and match schedule for Saturday
The Internationals have the Big Mo on their side as they enter the weekend against the Americans just one point down at the Presidents Cup.

On the mat after Thursday’s overall drubbing, Jason Day & Co. made the biennial affair a contest by nabbing 3.5 points on Friday and now head into the weekend just one behind the Americans at Jack Nicklaus GC in South Korea. With Oosthuizen and Grace leading off, Price hopes to get out to a strong start in a format that has historically befuddled the Internationals to the tune of a 41-65 record thus far.
“It was pretty clear for us what [Price] wanted from us. Get a blue number up there,” said Oosthuizen, whom his mates will be counting on for more of the same on Saturday in the first outing against Patrick Reed and Rickie Fowler.
This is the 8th time the US team has led after session 2 of the #PresidentsCup They went on to win each of the 1st 7 times
— Justin Ray (@JustinRayGC) October 9, 2015 The four foursomes — trimmed from five matches to four at the home team’s insistence — kick off a day in which eight points are up for grabs. Four four-ball tilts will follow in the afternoon.
The Americans have to be disappointed to be just 1-up after Thursday’s beatdown, and skipper Jay Haas intimated as much.
“It’s obviously a very important day tomorrow [Saturday],” he said. “I think the guys realize that and they will come out ready to go.”
Haas will keep just two of his four Friday teams together — Bubba Watson/J.B. Holmes and Jordan Spieth/Dustin Johnson. Both units prevailed in Thursday’s foursomes while the heavy-hitting team of Bubba and J.B. was the only squad to win Friday’s four-ball.
After Oosthuizen and Grace trounced Spieth and DJ on Friday, the world No. 1 displayed some frustration with comments that bordered on poor sportsmanship.
“One of us was out of the fairway on every single hole, one of us was missing the green on every single hole,” Spieth said after a 4 and 3 loss. “It was just really poorly played … That was ‘Merry Christmas’ to them.”
Golf Channel’s Arron Oberholser took issue with Spieth’s petulance, calling his words, “slightly classless.”
It doesn’t take a Sherlock to know that Holmes and Watson need to continue kicking Internationals butt when they take on Scott and Marc Leishman in the second match of the day. The slugging Americans have led from the outset and bested Scott and Hideki Matsuyama, 3 and 2, in the first foursome contest, and Leishman and Steven Bowditch, 2-up, in Friday’s four-ball.
Sangmoon Bae thrilled his fellow South Koreans when he won his first PC match on Friday and will partner with Matsuyama against the Bill Haas-Matt Kuchar tandem.
Phil Mickelson, whose epic brain cramp involving the one-ball rule led to a halve of his and Zach Johnson’s Friday match with Day and Adam Scott, won’t play on Saturday morning.
@BobWeeksTSN imagine being a professional golfer and having 2 different types of balls in your bag. That's more bizarre than the ruling.
— Graham DeLaet (@GrahamDeLaet) October 9, 2015 We doubt Haas benched him for talking smack after not losing to his opponents following his head-scratching “rookie move.”
