Michelle Wie, by most accounts, was boffo in her acting debut on Hawaii Five-0 last week, but the budding thespian was a bit harder on herself than others.
Michelle Wie reviews her ‘awkward’ acting debut
Michelle Wie calls her acting on Hawaii Five-0 ‘awkward.’

For sure, Wie, who spoke with reporters on Wednesday ahead of this week’s Honda LPGA Thailand event, had a fantastic time playing herself in the show shot in her native state. The reigning U.S. Women’s Open champion did, however, have some notes for her on-screen persona.
“It was weird,” Wie said about her cameo appearance as herself.
SOOOO surreal watching it on tv. I had a blast filming it with these guys! Keep an eye out for my 2nd scene pic.twitter.com/2yfhgDkuPd
— Michelle Wie (@themichellewie) February 21, 2015 In the scene, Wie happens upon a struggling Steve McGarrett (played by Alex O’Loughlin) during a round of golf and offers him some advice (“Widen your stance a little bit, bend your knees, keep your head down, keep your eyes on the ball, and just swing through”) as authoritatively as any world-class swing coach.
"@HawaiiFive0CBS: McGarrett's golf game is about to get a major boost. Tonight on #H50. @themichellewie ⛳️ https://t.co/4yeGvl7oLj" OMG
— Michelle Wie (@themichellewie) February 20, 2015 It was fun for Wie, though she sounded as if she could barely look at the screen during her performance.
“I hate watching myself on TV, but definitely watched it,” she said. “I was like, ‘Am I really that awkward in real life? What am I doing with my head?’”
Wie, who’s coming off a missed cut and a T24 to start the 2015 season, apparently brings a similar gawkiness to the gym, where she and Stacy Lewis share the same trainer and often work out together.
“I think I bring great entertainment to her day when I work out,” said the six-foot, one-inch Wie. “I just don’t know what to do with my limbs.”
The 2014 Player of the Year wholeheartedly agreed with her friend’s assessment.
“She’s really tall,” Lewis said of her LPGA colleague. “She just can’t jump very high.”
