Watch Daniel Berger make the first double-eagle in Bay Hill history

A perfect 4-iron from 237 yards results in the first ever albatross at Arnold Palmer’s place.

Holes-in-one are always fun, but the rarer and more incredible feat is the albatross. Since this week’s PGA Tour event, now known as the Arnold Palmer Invitational, started at Bay Hill in 1979, there has never been a 2 recorded on a par-5. That’s a pretty remarkable stat given the prestige of this tournament and the big names who have played here every year over the decades.

Daniel Berger ended that drought on Saturday morning at Bay Hill’s beautiful sixth hole. The par-5 winds all the way around a massive lake and requires a long-hitter to sneak a carry over the water without running through the fairway.

Berger didn’t exactly destroy his drive or take the most aggressive path, poking it 291 yards to the center of the fairway. But his second shot, a 4-iron from 237 yards, was a laser that just cleared the rocks and water in front of the green.

In addition to that double-eagle (or albatross if you’re one of those pedantic folks), Berger also poured in a 39-foot putt for eagle at the 16th hole. Any time you can play two holes in 5-under, you’re likely going to post a low number. Berger finished with a 68 and is now tied for 19th after jumping 21 spots up the leaderboard.
