Doral hasn’t been very kind to the WGC Cadillac Championship field this week as the course has gotten the better of nearly everyone. Everyone except J.B. Holmes. While most players have struggled just to card under par rounds, Holmes has ridden his blistering first round to 11-under and a five stroke lead heading into the final round.

J.B. Holmes headlines the final pairing as he attempts to win at Doral.

Holmes opened the tournament with a 10-under round of 62. He hasn’t come close to approaching that since, but a solid 2-under round of 70 gave him a five-shot advantage through 36 holes. His third round included an ace at the par-3 fourth hole. A similar round on Sunday could be enough to bring home the win with Doral not exactly set up for a strong final round surge. That doesn’t mean it’s impossible, however. While only 17 players will begin the final round under par, a few have managed some impressive scores in the difficult conditions. Bill Haas shot a 7-under round of 65 on Saturday.
It might take a similar round from a contender to catch Holmes, but it’s not out of the question. Dustin Johnson and Bubba Watson will begin the final round as the nearest competitors. Both are 6-under for the tournament. Ryan Moore is a shot further back at 5-under while Haas, Louis Oosthuizen and Henrik Stenson are all 4-under. Several big names sit further down the leaderboard, but would all need to go very low to be a factor. Sergio Garcia and Adam Scott will both begin the final round at 3-under while Rory McIlroy is 1-under heading into the last 18.
Although it’s not quite to the level of major championship coverage, NBC and Golf Channel will combine for extensive final round coverage. Golf Channel will begin the television coverage with its broadcast set to begin at 1 p.m. ET. Coverage will continue until 3 p.m. when the broadcast will move to NBC for the final four hours. When that happens, Golf Channel will begin spotlight coverage with the broadcast focused on the final four holes.
There will be plenty of coverage for online viewers with a pair of streams. For those looking for the traditional coverage, Golf Channel and NBC Sports will have a live simulcast stream of the television coverage. PGATour.com will chip in with a featured hole stream that will focus on No. 1 and No. 15. The featured hole stream will begin at 9 a.m., allowing viewers to catch the players begin their rounds before television coverage begins.
