Masters leaderboard 2015: Phil Mickelson, Tiger Woods rocketing up the leaderboard

Birdies have been plentiful on Saturday at Augusta and two of the biggest names are getting in on the act.

Jordan Spieth remains on top of the 2015 Masters leaderboard, but the rest of the field is doing its best to chase him down. The charge from the field is being led by Phil Mickelson who carded three early birdies and is now tied for second at 9-under, five strokes behind Spieth.

Mickelson opened his round with a par, but followed with three straight birdies to shoot up the leaderboard and into a tie for second place. He had another good birdie opportunity at No. 6 following an excellent tee shot at the par-3, but the putt just rolled by the cup and he had to settle for a par. Mickelson shot a 68 on Friday and the three-time Masters champion appears to be on pace for an even better round.

Mickelson isn’t the only player moving up the leaderboard with some early birdies. Tiger Woods has jumped into a tie for seventh place at 6-under. Woods began the day at 2-under, but made an early charge with three birdies in his first four holes. He added another birdie at No. 8 to make the turn in 32. Despite being 4-under on the round, the score is probably not as good as it should be. Woods has hit the ball beautifully and could be a couple more strokes under par if not for being slightly off with his putter.

Rory McIlroy has made the biggest early charge of the round. He’s 5-under through 13 holes -- thanks in part to an early eagle -- and is sixth at 7-under. Spieth remains on top at 14-under, although his even-par round includes just his second bogey of the tournament. Spieth three-putted on No. 4 to give back the birdie he made on No. 2.

Here is a snapshot of the current top 25. A live leaderboard can be found at Masters.com.
