Tiger Woods opens the 2015 Masters with a bogey

He hit the green in regulation, but an early three-putt has Tiger a shot down.

Coming off a long layoff, there was a lot of interest in how Tiger Woods would start his 2015 Masters. His opening hole proved to be a mixed bag, but ended with a poor result.

Woods opted to hit a 3-wood off the first tee, but it skirted a bit right and missed the fairway. He caught a fortunate break, however, and had a clean shot to the green. Woods played it safe and stuck his approach shot in the middle of the green. Woods had some 45 feet remaining with a bit of an uphill slope also adding to the difficulty level.

His lag putt wasn’t great, but good enough to leave him a solid opportunity to get out with an opening par. Woods, however, wasn’t able to make the five-foot putt and had to settle for an opening bogey. He was not pleased.

There is a bit of wind picking up at Augusta, which could make the afternoon conditions more difficult than what the morning wave faced. Woods has not played that opening hole well since 1997. He usually bombs it way left at No. 1, and did so in the practice rounds this week.
