You have to almost admire the way Brooks Koepka just hit the eject button at the end of his opening nine at the Players Championship. You typically see balls plunge into the water for big numbers at the 17th on the weekend at TPC Sawgrass, but Koepka went ahead and put two in that pond on just his eighth hole of the tournament. That’s one tee shot short, his first drop long, a second drop on and a couple putts.

Eject.

Fortunately for Brooks, the quadruple bogey 7 came before TV was live but the ShotTracker art is a better representation of this oil spill.
Unfortunately, the bomber from FSU doubled down on the 18th hole and posted another quadruple bogey. That hole gets less hype than the 17th but it’s a harder hole and full of water trouble. In this instance, Koepka sent one off the grid right and avoided the water on his tee shot. But after chipping out, he’d find the drink anyways on his way to an 8 (via PGATour.com).
And that 8-over two-hole stretch is how you put a quick end to your tournament. Koepka went out with a 8-over 44 to start his Players (via PGATour.com).
UPDATE: Koepka actually managed to break 80, posting a 78, which is a pretty respectable score given that he was 8-over on two holes.
