Tiger Woods completely fans par-3 tee shot into the water

The two-time Players champion barely made contact with this ball and brought a previously unexplored hazard into play.

We’ve seen Tiger Woods hit some poor tee shots in the past few months, but this one at the par-3 eighth hole is as bad as it gets. Tiger completely fanned the ball out to the right, damn near whiffing it and putting his ball on the OTHER side of a hazard that didn’t even seem in play.

The ball was recorded as landing 179 yards out from the tee, which is a good 35 yards short of the target. Tiger’s been shaky with some of his fairway woods off the tee, but this was a fairly basic 4-iron shot. It looked similar to that “near whiff” at Firestone last year. That ball came up 42 yards short of the target on a par-3 at that course.

This was already a difficult par-3, and Woods walked away with a double-bogey 5 after that disaster off the tee.
