2015 U.S. Open live stream: How to watch Thursday’s round online

The U.S. Open begins Thursday and viewers will be able to watch a lot of the action online.

Chambers Bay will take center stage of the golf world on Thursday when players tee it up and the 2015 U.S. Open begins. The 8-year-old course is hosting its first major championship and figures to be the center of attention as the field attempts to master the challenging setup. The uniqueness of the links-style course in the U.S. Open combined with a field loaded with the best players in the world should make for must-see action on Thursday.

Fortunately for viewers, there will not be any Masters-like restrictions of coverage. Instead, FOX will make it’s U.S. Open coverage debut with a full slate of live action. That includes both on television and online with multiple stream options available. FOX won the rights to broadcast the U.S. Open with a lucrative 10-year deal beginning this year. That means no more NBC and ESPN at the U.S. Open. It will also mean several new voices covering the action with Joe Buck and Greg Norman headlining the television coverage.

The television coverage on Thursday will begin at 12 p.m. ET on FOX Sports 1. It will continue for eight hours before transitioning to FOX at 8 p.m. for the final three hours of coverage. The 11 hours of live TV coverage will allow viewers to see the entire field live with tee times beginning at 10 a.m. While FOX and FOX Sports 1 will combine on television coverage, 10 of the 11 hours of the broadcast will also be available online via FOX Sports Go, beginning at 1 p.m.

The live simulcast of the television coverage will be one of four streams available for the first round. The coverage for the day will begin at 10 a.m. with “U.S. Open 360” coverage. The secondary streams also include a featured group stream and a featured hole stream that will focus on Nos. 12 and 15. Both will run from 10:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. All three secondary streams will be available at both FOX Sports Go and USOpen.com.

The featured group streams will not be lacking star power. World No. 1 Rory McIlroy will headline the first featured group, playing with Gunn Yang and defending U.S. Open champion Martin Kaymer. The three are scheduled to tee off at 11:28 a.m. Those interested in the state of Tiger Woods’ game won’t have to wait long to see how he fares in the first round. Woods, Rickie Fowler and Louis Oosthuizen will form the second featured group of the night and are scheduled to tee off at 5:28 p.m.

Many expect the course to play extremely hard this week, but having never hosted a tournament of this stature, it’s hard to know for sure how the course will fare. Thursday will provide the first glimpse into how the USGA plans to set up the course and how the players handle it. Here is a complete look at the first round coverage. All times Eastern.
