U.S. Open tee times 2015: Pairings and start time for Thursday’s opening round

The 156-player field is set for the U.S. Open.

In the days leading up to the 2015 U.S. Open, the focus has been on the course at Chambers Bay and the challenge its unique layout will provide. That will change some on Thursday with players finally begin to make their way around the links track for the first 18 of 72 championship holes.

The course will still be a major factor, especially depending on how the USGA decides to set it up, but the world class field will begin to steal the attention away. A total of 156 players are set to tee off in the first round, ranging from the world No. 1 Rory McIlroy to 15-year-old sectional qualified Cole Hammer. The field is loaded with possible story lines, headlined by Phil Mickelson who will make yet another run at the career grand slam. Mickelson is a U.S. Open victory away from winning every major championship. That’s despite his best efforts, including six second-place finishes in this event. He came close again two years ago at Merion Golf Club and finished second at the Masters this season.

Mickelson won’t have to wait long to get his quest for a U.S. Open underway as he will tee off in one of the first groups of the day. He’ll play with Bubba Watson and Angel Cabrera on Thursday with the three scheduled to step to the first tee at 10:33 a.m. ET. McIlroy will also be among the morning wave when he tees off at 11:28 a.m., joined by Gunn Yang and defending U.S. Open champion Martin Kaymer. The trio of McIlroy, Kaymer and Yang will receive some extra media attention as they will be on the featured group stream in the afternoon.

Tiger Woods will attempt to regain his major championship form in the afternoon wave as he’s set to tee off at 5:28 p.m. Woods will play with Rickie Fowler and Louis Oosthuizen and the three will make up the featured group in the afternoon. Masters champion Jordan Spieth will also be among the afternoon wave when he tees off at 5:17 p.m. along with Jason Day and Justin Rose.

Whether they tee of in the morning or the afternoon, every player will be on the course during live coverage thanks to extended television and online coverage from FOX. The first groups will tee off at 10 a.m. and television coverage will begin two hours later at noon on FOX Sports 1. Between FOX Sports 1 and FOX, television coverage will run from noon to 11 p.m. while online coverage will run from 10 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. There will be an online simulcast stream to go along with featured group streams, featured hole streams and “U.S. Open 360” coverage. The combination of coverage should allow viewers to see nearly every player play live.

Here is a complete look at the first round tee times. All times Eastern.
