Bubba Watson nearly whiffs on a bunker shot, hits the ball 3 feet

That wasn’t ideal.

Chambers Bay is a difficult golf course, but becomes nearly impossible when players make it harder than it needs to be. That’s exactly what Bubba Watson did on No. 10 when he opted against using a backdrop to filter the ball to the pin and instead attempted a hero flop shot out of a bunker.

It did not go well.

Watson barely made contact at all, just catching the ball with the toe of his club. That shot came after he flew his tee shot into a fairway bunker, meaning he accomplished the rare feat of hitting three straight bunker shots. He went on to make a double bogey and is currently 2-over.
