The 2015 U.S. Open got underway from Chambers Bay with the first round on Thursday and with it came FOX’s debut as the host network. FOX won the bidding rights to handle coverage for the U.S. Open with the deal beginning this year. It was quite the challenge for a network running its first golf coverage and the cast and crew will be back for Day 2 on Friday.
U.S. Open 2015 TV coverage and schedule for Friday’s round
FOX Sports 1 and FOX will once again combine for extensive television coverage.

Although there were a few technical glitches along the way, FOX’s golf debut was mostly solid, even if unfamiliar. ESPN and NBC combined on U.S. Open coverage for a number of years. This time around, Joe Buck and Greg Norman were in place of Chris Berman and Johnny Miller. It was a drastic change, but FOX’s coverage certainly could have been worse. On the positive side, there was a lot of coverage and that trend will continue on Friday with the second round.
FOX Sports 1 and FOX will combine for 11 hours of live television coverage, beginning at 12 p.m. ET. The coverage will run until 11 p.m. allowing viewers on the East coast to watch live golf for most of the day, including in prime time. The coverage will begin on FOX Sports 1 before switching over to FOX at 8 p.m. where it will remain for the final three hours. A simulcast of the television coverage will be available via an online stream from FOX Sports Go. FOX Sports Go and the USOpen.com will both provide additional streams including “U.S. Open 360” coverage, a featured group stream and a featured holes stream focused on Nos. 12 and 15.
Players will begin teeing off two hours before television coverage begins, but the entire 156-player field will be on the course during the live broadcast for at least a few holes. Jordan Spieth, Justin Rose, Tiger Woods, Rickie Fowler and Zach Johnson will be among the players headlining the morning wave and early television coverage. Woods and Fowler both played miserably on Thursday. They will tee off in a group together along with Louis Oosthuizen at 11:28 a.m. Woods will begin the round at 10-over and if he wants any chance of making the cut, he may need to trim a stroke or two off that by the time television coverage begins. Spieth, Rose and Jason Day will form the morning featured group and are set to tee off at 11:17 a.m.
There will be plenty of action throughout the day with notable players teeing off throughout. Dustin Johnson and Henrik Stenson will begin the day tied for the lead and both will play in the afternoon wave. Johnson is scheduled to tee off No. 1 at 5:17 p.m. while Stenson will step to the No. 10 tee at the same time. Phil Mickelson will tee off at 4:33 p.m. with Rory McIlory and his group set to go at 5:28 p.m.
