There will be no runaway U.S. Open champion this year. A year ago, Martin Kaymer led the event wire-to-wire on the way to an eight-stroke victory. He carried a five-stroke lead into the final round and was only a collapse away from taking the trophy. This year, the final round will open with four players tied for the lead and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the tournament come down to the 72nd hole.
U.S. Open 2015 tee times: Pairings and start times for Sunday’s final round
The final groups could decide the 2015 U.S. Open.

At times, Jordan Spieth and Dustin Johnson have looked like they might start to separate from the rest of the field. But, as soon as either recorded a birdie or two, they ran into trouble. Spieth dipped to 7-under early in the round on Saturday, only to find himself 3-under a handful of holes later. Chambers Bay might let up a birdie or two, but it can also send players tumbling the wrong way on the leaderboard and do it quickly. Johnson and Spieth will open the final round at 4-under, tied for the 54-hole lead with Branden Grace and Jason Day.
Day turned in the second-best round on Saturday, shooting a 2-under 68. He did it while battling a bout of vertigo. Day said he felt less than 100 percent all day and even had to control shaking on the back nine. He still managed to charge in with two closing birdies to become the first player to set 4-under in the clubhouse. With the rest of the field unable to top him, Day earned a spot in the final pairing on Sunday. Quite an accomplishment for a player who has battled a serious medical situation for most of the tournament.
Day will be joined in the final pairing by Johnson. This is the second time Johnson will begin Sunday at the U.S. Open with at least a share of the lead. The last time that happened was 2010 when Johnson proceeded to shoot an 82 and finish five strokes back despite opening the round with a three-stroke lead. He will have to hope for a better fate this time around. He and Day are among the best two players yet to win a major. Both have been close before and there will be considerable pressure on them on Sunday.
Spieth already has a major championship, thanks to his victory at the Masters in April. He’ll play in the second-to-last group alongside Grace. Grace may not be as big of a name as Johnson, Spieth and Day -- especially in the United States -- but he’s certainly a fine player and capable of winning this tournament. The 27-year-old has never finished better than a tie for 51st in the U.S. Open, but he’s hit the ball beautifully this week and putted well enough to stick near the top of the leaderboard.
Louis Oosthuizen also finds himself with a late Sunday tee time. That didn’t seem very likely early in his tournament after her opened with a 7-over 77 in the first round. He was 9-over at one point, but then things clicked. He played his last 34 holes at 10-under, thanks in large part to a 4-under 66 on Saturday -- the best round of the day.
Players will begin hitting the course bright and early with the final few groups taking their turn on the first tee around 5 p.m. ET. Television coverage will begin at 2 p.m. on FOX. Here is a complete look at the final round tee times. All times Eastern.
