The 2015 Open Championship will take place at the Old Course of St. Andrews this week. While it has the longest history in golf, it also is known for the inclement weather that usually coincides with playing this classic links land setup. Weather will make things challenging for the 144th Open Championship as a series of storm systems will bring rain and very strong and gusty winds Friday through the weekend.

St. Andrews will live up to its reputation of wind and rain for the 144th Open Championship.
Winds will be the main concern over the course of the tournament, with Friday into Saturday morning as the time with the strongest winds. Winds will be out of the southwest then west Friday into Saturday. Gusts could reach as high as 40 to 45 miles per hour and sustained between 15 to 25 mph. Both Thursday and Sunday will also be relatively windy with winds 10 to 20 mph and gusts near 30 mph.
THURSDAY - OPENING ROUND WEATHER FORECAST
Mostly cloudy for the day and winds will be increasing into the afternoon and evening. While a stray shower is possible, it should be mostly dry. Winds will be out of the east and increase to 15 to 20 mph with gusts near 25 mph towards the end of the day. High 59.
FRIDAY - SECOND ROUND WEATHER FORECAST
Storm system passing by the British Isles will bring rain and strong gusty winds to St Andrews. Rain showers are likely but it will be all about the winds. It will be cloudy to mostly cloudy with possible showers and maybe an isolated thunderstorm. It will remain very windy with southwest winds between 15 to 25 mph and gusts between 30 to 40 mph. High 60

Less wind and drier conditions are expected. It will remain cloudy to mostly cloudy with just a chance of a passing shower. Winds will not be as strong, as they will be between 5 to 15 mph with a few gusts near 20 mph. Winds will be out of the west-southwest through the day. High 61
