The Open Championship projected cut: Tiger Woods destined for another missed cut

The official cut won’t be made until Saturday due to weather delays, but Tiger Woods’ fate is essentially sealed.

A three-hour weather delay in the morning prevented the 2015 British Open field from completing the second round, which will push the official cut to Saturday morning. A few player’s fates are already sealed, however, and Tiger Woods is likely among that group. Barring a miraculous finish to his second round, Woods will miss the cut at The Open for just the second time in his career.

Woods is 5-over on the tournament and was through 11 holes in the second round when play was suspended for the night. The projected cut is at even-par, though it could potentially climb to 1-over. The top 70 players plus ties make the cut. Currently 83 players are at even or better, so the cut line isn’t likely to move much. That would mean Woods needs to finish with a flurry of birdies if he’s going to make the cut. Considering he has made just two birdies in the entire tournament thus far, that seems highly improbable.

If he does indeed go on to miss the cut, it will be the first time Woods has ever missed back-to-back cuts in major championships, according to Justin Ray of Golf Channel. He struggled mightily at the U.S. Open and finished tied for 150th place, 11 strokes off the cut. He didn’t fare much better at St. Andrews and currently sits tied for 129th place.

Keegan Bradley managed to get in a full 36 holes, but is 3-over and on the wrong side of the projected cut line. A late double-bogey dropped Brandt Snedeker to 3-over and he finished at 2-over. Ian Poulter (3-over) is currently on the wrong side of the projected cut with holes to play while Bubba Watson is even and would make the cut if he doesn’t stumble finishing his round.

Here is a complete look at the leaderboard when play was stopped and where the cut line stands.
