British Open tee times 2015: Pairings for Monday’s final round

The final round has finally arrived and the leaderboard is loaded with contenders.

History will be on the line Monday at St. Andrews as Jordan Spieth attempts to claim the Claret Jug and become just the second player to ever win the first three majors in a single season. Spieth is 11-under through 54 holes and one shot off the lead. He will play in the second-to-last pairing and be joined by Jason Day.

Day has seemingly been in constant major championship contention the last few seasons. He has five top-10 finishes in majors since 2013, but is yet to break through and win one. He hasn’t had much success in the Open Championship either with his best finish a tie for 30th. He appears on the way to a new career best and is a strong contender to win it all. Although they won’t be in the final group, Day and Spieth figure to draw the majority of attention early on, especially if they are playing well.

Spieth began the third round five shots off the lead, but found his putting stroke and rocketed up the leaderboard on the back nine. He made seven birdies on the round, including four on the back nine to shoot 66 and move to 11-under. The 21-year-old coule be the first player since Ben Hogan in 1953 to win the first three legs of a grand slam in one season. If he claims the Claret Jug, he would need a win at the PGA Championship to be the first to complete the grand slam in one season.

With weather causing delays on Friday and Saturday, the final round was pushed back to Monday morning. The late groups will begin teeing off after 8 a.m. ET with Spieth and Day set to hit the course at 9:20 a.m. They are only two of a number of notable names in contention.

Louis Oosthuizen is tied for the 54-hole lead and will play in the final pairing. He will be joined by amateur Paul Dunne who became the first amateur since 1927 to hold a share of the 54-hole lead at The Open. If he can muster up one more incredible round, he would be the first player since 1930 to win the British Open as an amateur.

In addition to Spieth, Day, Oosthuizen and Dunne, Sergio Garcia, Justin Rose, Adam Scott, Zach Johnson, Rickie Fowler, Charl Schwartzel and Patrick Reed will play in the final 10 pairings. Dustin Johnson entered the third round for the lead, but while nearly all of the field went low, he struggled. He shot a 75, tied for the second-worst score of the third round. That dropped him from the lead, to five shots back. He will tee off at 7:25 a.m., more than two hours before the final pairing. That doesn’t mean he can’t get back into contention, but he might need to shoot in the low 60s to do so.
